The start of a New Year means the start of a new healthier, fitness centred lifestyle for many people. There are tonnes of plant-based workout recovery and protein shakes on the market to choose from nowadays to help you recover after a hard session. My current ‘go to’ supplement are the lean protein plant-based sachets by VITL. This range comes in two flavours, chocolate and vanilla, and in pre-portioned sachets meaning they are easy to transport and keep in your gym bag. Made from a blend of pea and hemp protein, then blended with a selection of vitamins and minerals to support protein synthesis, metabolism and general health.
The sachets taste great on their own shaken up with some almond milk and are a great post workout boots. None the less, they are also delicious baked and blended into cakes, smoothies and desserts. I experimented with making a protein boosted chocolate mousse and the results got the seal of approval from the Mr and the flatmate, it stands as a tasty indulgent dessert in its own right but with the healthy ingredients and extra protein it’s also a perfect ‘after workout’ treat.
1 large avocado
1 can of coconut cream
1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil
3 tablespoons of agave
1 sachet of Vitl chocolate protein
2 tablespoons of cacao powder
chocolate sauce (I use sweet freedom)
– Place all of the mousse ingredients into your high-speed blender or nutribullet and blend on high – stopping every 30 secs to remove the blade and scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure all the ingredients are blended and the mix is smooth.
– Spoon the mousse mixture into two small glass cups and place in the fridge for 30 mins to set.
remove from the fridge and top with your desired fruits, nuts and syrups.
